About the Capital District Autobody Association

The Capital District Autobody Association is a regional trade association for the collision repair industry in upstate New York. Our members and audience are the body shops, technicians, and suppliers who repair accident-damaged vehicles across the Capital District, and the drivers who depend on that work being done right.

What is the Capital District?

The Capital District is the region of New York State surrounding the state capital, Albany. It includes the cities of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga Springs, along with the towns and rural communities around them. The region is home to a large community of independent collision repair shops, from small family businesses to multi-bay facilities, serving hundreds of thousands of drivers.

Why a trade association?

Independent repair shops face challenges that are hard to tackle alone. Repair procedures grow more technical as vehicles add driver-assistance systems and new materials. Insurance claim practices affect how repairs are estimated and paid. Training and equipment requirements keep rising. An association lets shops share knowledge, speak with one voice, and hold the whole industry to a higher standard.

  • Education. Keeping members informed about repair procedures, industry developments, and best practices.
  • Advocacy. Representing the interests of independent repairers and their customers in conversations with insurers and regulators.
  • Consumer information. Helping New York drivers understand their rights in the collision claim process, starting with the right to choose their own repair shop.
  • Community. Connecting shop owners and technicians across the region so the trade grows stronger together.

Our approach on this site

This website focuses on plain-language information that stays useful over time. We explain how the collision repair process works, what quality repair looks like, and how drivers and shops can protect themselves. For guidance on a specific claim or legal question, always consult the appropriate professional, because the material here is general information rather than legal advice.
