Resources
This section collects practical guides for drivers and shops in the Capital District. Each guide is written in plain language and focuses on the decisions people actually face when a vehicle is damaged. We add and update material over time, so check back if you do not find what you need today.
Guides for drivers
- What to do after an accident. A step-by-step walkthrough of the moments after a crash: safety first, documenting the scene, exchanging information, reporting the accident, and starting your insurance claim without giving up your rights.
- How to read a repair estimate. Collision estimates are full of abbreviations and line items that mean little to most vehicle owners. This guide explains the structure of an estimate, the difference between repair and replace operations, how parts types are labeled, and what supplements are.

Outside resources
For claim disputes and insurance questions, the New York State Department of Financial Services publishes consumer guidance on auto insurance claims. Vehicle manufacturers publish position statements and repair procedures for their models, and national industry organizations publish training and certification information for technicians and shops. We encourage both drivers and repairers to go to primary sources whenever a specific, current answer matters.
